The picturesque village of Vlkolínec offers a fascinating glimpse into the history of traditional folk architecture. It is not just an open-air museum but a truly inhabited village with both permanent and seasonal residents.
In 1993, Vlkolínec was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as a unique landscape, settlement, and architectural complex. Here, you can admire rare structures such as the wooden two-story belfry from 1770, a wooden well with a winch from 1860, and the brick Baroque-Classical Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary built in 1875. A significant part of the protected buildings consists of traditional wooden houses and farmyards. An integral part of the village is also the museum exhibition “Farmer’s House,” which showcases traditional life and housing in Vlkolínec.
