The Mining and Metallurgy Museum Maša in Liptovský Hrádok is a national cultural monument that brings together the historical buildings Vážnica and Klopačka, documenting the mining and metallurgy traditions of the Upper Liptov region. These traditions remained active until the second half of the 19th century.
Inside Klopačka, visitors can find a gallery featuring reproductions of old mining woodcuts from the work of Georgius Agricola. His famous treatise De re metallica libri XII depicts the development of mining from the 16th century, focusing on the technological aspects and mining methods that were also typical for the Liptov region.
The Vážnica exhibition presents the history of mining and metallurgy in Liptov through informative panels enriched with text and illustrations. The display is complemented by miners’ clothing, a collection of mining lamps, and various work tools, providing a comprehensive picture of ore extraction and metal processing in the region.
