The Kvačianska Valley National Nature Reserve is one of the most picturesque valleys in the Liptov region and hides a unique technical and cultural monument – the Oblazy Mills.
Hiking through this valley is a pleasant and interesting walk that is not difficult, making it suitable even for families with young children. The route leads from Liptovský Trnovec through Liptovská Sielnica to the village of Kvačany and measures approximately 8 km. You can easily reach the designated parking area by car, where you’ll also find an information booth.
At the beginning of the valley, you can see the remains of a former stone quarry. As you continue, the countless beauties of Liptov’s nature unfold before you. The waterfalls cascading from Hrádková are most impressive in spring when they carry the most water; in summer they may dry up, and in winter they transform into a stunning icefall. The trail gradually ascends through a rugged, rocky section. On the right rises the cliff known as Hladká skala, and opposite it, a 30-meter rock formation resembling a human face—known as Jánošík’s Head—can be seen.
Ráztocký Waterfall
Further uphill, in the area called Kobyliny, you’ll find an approximately 80-meter-deep gorge on the left side. These spots are freely accessible, so caution is advised, especially if you’re hiking with children. The highest point of this route is Roháč, which offers a breathtaking view of the gorge. You can refresh yourself at the Pod Vatrovou spring. At the trail crossroads, you can choose which direction to take. A steep path leads down into the valley to the technical monument – the Oblazy water mills and sawmill. Sitting by the mountain stream Kvačianka in this charming setting is a perfect way to relax.
If you turn right at the crossroads, you’ll reach the bridge over the Kvačianka stream and the remains of an old wagoners’ inn at Poľana. The blue-marked trail continues into the Borovianka Valley, where the Ráztocký Waterfall awaits you.
