The nearby village of Bešeňová offers not only relaxation in its thermal waters but also breathtaking natural scenery. A gentle walk to the abandoned quarry in the northern part of the village will lead you to a natural monument – the Bešeňová Travertines.
These stunning, colorful travertines, covering an area of 3.18 hectares, are actually a form of soft limestone. Their formation is influenced by water temperature, chemical composition, the presence of organisms and CO₂, as well as the geological substrate.
The mineral water flowing over this natural wonder contains calcium carbonate, along with magnesium, sulfur, and iron. It is precisely these elements that give the Bešeňová Travertines their glossy appearance and beautiful range of colors.
